Plumbing Rough-In Standards

  1. If the jobsite is not clean when you arrive, notify the site superintendent.
  2. Clean and swept jobsite when complete.
  3. All plastic bottles and trash in the dumpster.
  4. No fires on the jobsite at any time.
  5. No Parking in customers' concrete driveways.
  6. Sheetrock penetrations must be with a drop eared 90 and a brass or stainless nipple.(IRC Section P2705.1)
  7. Braided Stainless Steel Supply lines required. (RCH Internal Standard)
  8. Chrome ¼ turn stops required. (RCH Internal Standard)
  9. When installing pipe in studs, the studs should be drilled rather than notched. If notching absolutely cannot be avoided, notches should be no larger than necessary and should be done neatly as an example of good craftsmanship. (IRC Section P2605)
  10. Blocking behind all shower valves and wall penetrations (IRC Section P2705.1)
  11. Grade PEX 5306 required. (RCH Internal Standard)
  12. Pex pipe should be clamped every 32” for horizontal runs and at each change in direction of plumbing pipe. (IRC P2605.2)
  13. Vertical runs of PEX should be clamped at every floor and at every change in direction.(IRC P2605.2)
  14. Stainless steel or brass fittings required. (RCH Internal Standard)
  15. Stainless Steel PEX rings required. Copper or brass is not acceptable. (RCH Internal Standard)
  16. Shower valves should have no more than 3 connections. (RCH Internal Standard)
  17. Do not cut beams or girders for waste or supply lines without approval of a Retherford Custom Homes Field Superintendent. (IRC R502.8)
  18. PEX Supply lines should pass a pressure test at least 100 psi or 50 psi above working pressure, whichever is greater for at least 15 minutes. (IRC Section P2503.8)
  19. Drains, waste and vents (DWV) water tested with a 10’ head for 15 minutes or air tested at 5 psi for 15 minutes. (IRC Section P2503.5.1)
  20. Nail plates required at all locations where pipes pass through studs. (IRC Section P2603.2)
  21. Venting Requirements: All plumbing systems must be venting according to requirements listed in IRC Sections: P3105, P3106, P3107, P3108 & P3109
  22. Studor vents can only be used when absolutely necessary and only with approval from a Retherford Custom Homes Field Superintendent. (RCH Internal Standard)
  23. Studor vents must be installed a minimum of 4” above the drain of the fixture being drained. (IRC Section P3114)
  24. Studor Vents must be Studor 20342 Maxi-Vent Air Admittance Valve or equivalent. (RCH Internal Standard)
  25. Hose Bibb supply lines should have enough slack to allow the hose bibb to be pulled out 18” from the exterior wall to allow for future servicing of the hose bibb. (RCH Internal Standard).

Any and all Retherford Custom Homes Internal Standards are superseded by requirements recognized by the local building inspection department and by the standards set up in the most current International Building Code.
