Drywall Hanging & Finishing Standards

General:

  1. If the jobsite is not clean when you arrive, notify the site superintendent.
  2. Clean and swept jobsite when complete.
  3. All plastic bottles and trash in the dumpster.
  4. No fires on jobsite at any time
  5. No parking on customer’s concrete driveways

Drywall Hanging

Ceilings

  1. Place screws 7 to 8 inches apart on center along the edges of the panel. 
  2. Use screws spaced 12 inches apart on center in the field of the drywall. 
  3. Placement: Keep fasteners at least 3/8 inch from the edges. 
  4. Maximum ⅛” gap around electrical boxes and windows
  5. Moisture Resistant Sheetrock required in bathrooms
  6. Drywall screws should be set just below the paper's surface. Do not overdrive the screws
  7. Ensure 90 deg. at dead corners
  8. Install sheets with the long edge perpendicular to the ceiling joists.
  9. When hanging has been completed, all scrap drywall should be placed in the dumpster. 
  10. Full sheets of drywall that are left over should be placed in the dumpster.

Drywall Finishing

  1. Finish Level 4 required in most places
  2. Ensure that walls and ceilings adjacent to windows do not show seams.  Increase to Level 5 if necessary.
  3. Paper faced metal corner beads on all outside corners are required. 
  4. Finish around all plumbing penetrations
  5. Maximum of 1/16” kick out at outside corners
  6. Final sanding should be performed with 220 grit sand paper
  7. Do not finish drywall in freezing conditions
  8. Blemishes and imperfections should not be visible from a minimum distance of 5’ feet  perpendicular from the surface under normal lighting conditions
  9. House should be swept and cleaned after sanding activities are completed
