Drywall Hanging & Finishing Standards
General:
- If the jobsite is not clean when you arrive, notify the site superintendent.
- Clean and swept jobsite when complete.
- All plastic bottles and trash in the dumpster.
- No fires on jobsite at any time
- No parking on customer’s concrete driveways
Drywall Hanging
Ceilings
- Place screws 7 to 8 inches apart on center along the edges of the panel.
- Use screws spaced 12 inches apart on center in the field of the drywall.
- Placement: Keep fasteners at least 3/8 inch from the edges.
- Maximum ⅛” gap around electrical boxes and windows
- Moisture Resistant Sheetrock required in bathrooms
- Drywall screws should be set just below the paper's surface. Do not overdrive the screws
- Ensure 90 deg. at dead corners
- Install sheets with the long edge perpendicular to the ceiling joists.
- When hanging has been completed, all scrap drywall should be placed in the dumpster.
- Full sheets of drywall that are left over should be placed in the dumpster.
Drywall Finishing
- Finish Level 4 required in most places
- Ensure that walls and ceilings adjacent to windows do not show seams. Increase to Level 5 if necessary.
- Paper faced metal corner beads on all outside corners are required.
- Finish around all plumbing penetrations
- Maximum of 1/16” kick out at outside corners
- Final sanding should be performed with 220 grit sand paper
- Do not finish drywall in freezing conditions
- Blemishes and imperfections should not be visible from a minimum distance of 5’ feet perpendicular from the surface under normal lighting conditions
- House should be swept and cleaned after sanding activities are completed
